PA companies create full-scale 3D armor based on video game

Reading, PA (February 4, 2021) – Verde Mantis LP and TheGeekGrid have joined forces on a groundbreaking project – using 3D printing technology to create the first full-sized set of T-60 Armor as seen in the video game Fallout 76.

The complete costume will be revealed at the upcoming STEAMFest 2021 and will be worn by TheGeekGrid founder Kat Mahoney. The project is already creating a buzz among the cosplay community.

Verde Mantis, maker of easy-to-use 3D printers, and TheGeekGrid, a leading STEAM education and event organization, are working together to produce the armor. The finished product will be made up of over 100 different 3D models produced on the Mantis 3D printer, and finished and fitted by hand.

Both organizations hope to show the world what’s possible with the groundbreaking new 3D manufacturing technology.

“We’re excited to tackle this project because it shows just how useful 3D printing can be when you have an application that requires you to make something bespoke,” said Joe Sinclair, founder of Verde Mantis. “The cosplay community in particular can really benefit from this technology, as they’re making new costumes and props for every major event.”

“Working with Kat and TheGeekGrid, we’ll be able to address all the critical details to bring this costume to life in an authentic way. Kat has a deep love for the Fallout game series, and that’s why we selected this costume to focus on.”

TheGeekGrid will be helping to chronicle the project and share it with the maker community, in addition to providing guidance on the history and culture of the cosplay community.

“We’re very excited to be involved with this project,” said TheGeekGrid’s Mahoney, who also is founder of the PA STEAMFest. “One of the things we always try to leave our audience thinking

about is the importance of learning via application. A concept comes alive when it’s introduced through an application your student already cares about.”

“We feel this project will show viewers that a 3D printer isn’t just a piece of technology, it’s a powerful tool that can help bring your ideas to life. In cosplay there are traditional construction techniques like sewing, molding and modeling, painting, casting and more. 3D printing technology is really just the next logical tool for the tool box.”
